River & Root is a nature-inspired, Montessori-style indoor play space located in Barrington, New Jersey. Designed to feel like an extension of the outdoors, our calm, earthy environment invites little ones to explore, create, and connect through open play and enrichment classes like music, art, cooking, and sensory play.
More than just a place to play, River & Root is a community hub for local families—offering mom meetups, seasonal events, and cozy gatherings in a space that feels like home.
OUR STORY
River & Root was born from a deep love of nature, community, and the town we call home. The name holds deep personal meaning. River honors my grandmother and her home on River Road, a symbol of freedom, joy, and the ever-changing nature of childhood. Root reflects my own family’s history here in Barrington, New Jersey symbolizing stability, legacy, and the nurturing strength of parenthood.
This space is the next chapter in a journey that began with RV adventures across all 50 states and grew through building Your Mom Friend South Jersey, a now trusted resource for local families. River & Root brings it all together—a warm, nature-inspired space where children can explore freely and parents can feel grounded in community.
OUR SPACE
River & Root is nestled inside a charming 1940s home in the heart of Barrington—a truly unique setting for an indoor play space. Inside, little ones can explore and play freely, while our wraparound porch and yard offer space for snacks, fresh air, and outdoor fun in the warmer months. It’s a cozy blend of indoor comfort and outdoor adventure, all rooted in a historic neighborhood gem that’s been part of the community for over 80 years.
OUR COMMUNITY
River & Root was created with the community, and by the community, at its heart. From our structural engineer to our interior designer, contractor, and branding expert, local moms have played a vital role in bringing this space to life. We’re committed to continuing that spirit of collaboration by inviting families to help shape our programming, events, and offerings—ensuring that what we create is truly reflective of the community it serves. This isn’t just a play space; it’s a community hub where little ones grow and families take root.
